An Electric Company Theatre (Vancouver) production Presented by the National Arts Centre English Theatre

Vancouver's innovative, exciting theatre collective The Electric Company Theatre bring their acclaimed touring production of Brilliant! The Blinding Enlightenment of Nikola Tesla to the Nation's Capital. Brilliant! The Blinding Enlightenment of Nikola Tesla is an explosive, extradimensional and alarmingly theatrical exploration of one of the most formidable inventing minds of the past one hundred years. Brilliant! opens in the NAC Studio Tuesday, March 21 and runs until Saturday, April 1. Tickets are available at the NAC Box Office in person, or through Ticketmaster at (613) 755-1111. See details below. The story, set in turn of the century New York, chronicles the career of Nikola Tesla, the inventor of alternating current, whose work in the field of electricity ushered in the modern age. In Tesla's Victorian world we see a reflection of our modern times: a world where new technology dazzles and fascinates with its promises while at the same time threatens, provoking social paranoia with its unknown implications for humanity. Brilliant! is told with playfully eclectic staging: A song and tap-dance routine depicts a fierce battle between Tesla and Thomas Edison; A silent film is performed live on stage, detailing Tesla's descent into madness in his desert laboratory. The biggest crowd pleaser is an inflated sphere five feet in diameter which is used in an array of acrobatic feats as it comes to symbolize Tesla's extraordinary visions and dreams. The Electric Company Theatre has created, staged and toured numerous award-winning, innovative physical theatre productions in the 10 years since their inception. Brilliant! The Blinding Enlightenment of Nikola Tesla is the company's most often produced work to-date, and was written and directed by Electric Company: Kim Collier, David Hudgins, Kevin Kerr and Jonathon Young. The production is performed by the Electric Company, with James Long taking the place of Kevin Kerr for their appearance at the NAC. Set Designer is Andreas Kahre, Costume Designer is Mara Gottler, Lighting Designer is Adrian Muir, video design is by Amos Hertzman with Electric Company and sound design is by David Hudgins with Electric Company. The Stage Manager for this production is Stephen Courtenay. Tickets for Brilliant!
