Friday, February 3, 2006, Ottawa, ON – Brookfield High School’s World
Voices Choir will add to their impressive resume this Monday when they
participate in the official kick-off of the Canadian International
Development Agency- Development Week. This year’s theme is “Move Your
World”.
The Brookfield World Voices Choir was invited to take part in recognition
of their passionate interest in human rights and development issues. They
express their ideas in the language that everyone understands – music. As
a group they sing and speak in English, French, Spanish, German, Farsi,
Arabic, Ibo, Yoruba, Ewe, Ga, Swahili, Zulu, Chinese, Cantonese, Korean,
Hebrew and Sign. The Choir study music from Traditional Cultures around
the world and believe that by presenting the many voices of the world they
will be able to unite the spirit of peace and acceptance.
Artist Director, Jeannie Hunter says that the students celebrate their
love of music while creating awareness of HIV/Aids, child poverty, the
need to develop shopping habits that support Fair Trade products, to name
just a few of the causes supported by the Brookfield High School World
Voices Choir.
On Monday, February 6 the World Voices Choir will celebrate the message of
“Move Your World” in collaboration with the International Development
Agency. This May the students will travel to New York, where they will
tour the United Nations Head Quarters.
