R. Seenivasan, DHAN, and Tanveer Arif, SCOPE, will present and discuss the key issue of water and development within the larger context of South Asian development and sustainability. You are welcome to bring your lunch.
Biographies:
R. Seenivasan is trained as an Agricultural Engineer and Rural Manager, has worked with water programs for the last sixteen years, and is currently the Research Program Leader for the DHAN Foundation based in Madurai, India. Working with urban and rural communities, DHAN implements large programs on community banking, tanks (large water catchments) and ponds used for agriculture and drinking. Seenivasan also teaches tank rehabilitation and tankfed agriculture.
Tanveer Arif has a degree in Biology and a Masters in Geography from Karachi University. In 1988, he founded SCOPE to serve poor communities who face the challenges of environmental degradation. SCOPE is currently implementing local level, community intervention programmes such as water harvesting, livestock improvement, rangeland improvement, agro-forestry, mitigation of drought and combating desertification.
