Team Ottawa–Orléans, a joint initiative by MP Marc Godbout, MPP Phil
McNeely, Ottawa Mayor Bob Chiarelli and east-end councilors, was launched at a
media conference today. The Team, a coordinated effort to address social and
economic development in Orléans, also introduced its terms of reference and a
number of local citizens who will chair sector-specific work groups.
Organizers believe that this is a chance to make a real difference in
the community in a relatively short period of time. The structure is such that
well researched, professional proposals and strategic plans can be presented
simultaneously to all three orders of government.
“I see Team Ottawa-Orléans as a coherent partnership that will enable
our community to reach its full economic and social potential,” said MP Marc
Godbout.
Member of Provincial Parliament Phil McNeely agreed, saying “Team
Ottawa-Orléans will create an unprecedented level of synergy between the three
orders of government and our community leaders. By directing our efforts
towards shared goals, I am confident that Team Ottawa-Orléans can move ahead on
important issues.”
The initiative’s champions have been recruiting community members —
people who care about making this the best place in the world to live, work and
raise a family — to support Team Ottawa–Orléans and as many as 70 community
leaders have stepped forward. These people will assist the initiative and its
sector-specific work groups.
Ottawa Mayor Bob Chiarelli praised the efforts of all involved parties,
adding that “the formation of Team Ottawa-Orléans will allow the community to
speak and act with one voice on the quality of life and job initiatives in
Ottawa’s East end.”
“We need to seize this opportunity,” added Ottawa Councillor Rainer
Bloess (Ward 2 – Innes). “It a chance to harness the community and political
resources to drive the economic and social agenda in Orléans to the benefit of
all our residents.”
This initiative is expected to both ensure the efficiency of the
economic and social development process and harness all the creativity that
Ottawa–Orléans has to offer.
Team
Ottawa–Orléans is a community-driven economic- and social-development
initiative — the first in the region — whose sole goal is to ensure that
Ottawa–Orléans is attractive to both residents and business. Initial support for Team Ottawa-Orléans is being
supplied by le Regroupement franco-ontarien de développement économique et
d’employabilité (RDÉE Ontario).
