August 20-22, 2010: CAN-CON 2010

Events & Entertainment • Posted by ottawastart on August 15, 2010

The Conference for Canadian Speculative Arts and Literature.  Travelodge Hotel & Convention Centre, 1376 Carling Avenue.

CAN•CON is a celebration of Canada’s numerous and ongoing contributions to the genres of science-fiction, fantasy, alternate histories, utopian and dystopian fiction, and speculative horror… It’s an entertaining and informative blend of Canada’s finest! 100% volunteer-run and entirely not-for-profit, CAN•CON is a labour of love for the many that organize and staff it.

CAN•CON’s Registration Table will “open” at 5PM on Friday and programming will officially start at 6PM on Friday and run through until Sunday at noon. There will be a 24 hour Hospitality Suite for the entire weekend, so there will always be a place to grab a snack, meet other participants, and have (or listen in on) conversations. We still have to figure out the hours, but there will be a Dealer’s Room all three days at the event. There will be one stream of programming on Friday and Sunday, and two simultaneous streams on Saturday (with workshops, etc. being held in the smaller of the rooms). The Steampunk Social will be held Saturday evening from 8PM through to… whenever the hotel makes us stop or people get tired. We also tentatively have a book launch scheduled for Friday evening, and we will update as our plans become more concrete. As for the rest of the schedule… patience is a virtue, right? We’ll be scheduling some things this month, but some may not be ready to be put on an actual schedule until only a few weeks ahead of the event. We will be posting updates as they happen.
