Hugely popular Canadian actor-comedian Eugene Levy returns to the NAC to say Happy 40th Birthday, NAC Orchestra!

Hugely popular Canadian actor-comedian Eugene Levy returns to the NAC to say Happy 40th Birthday, NAC Orchestra! In the third TD Canada Trust ‘Family Adventures with the National Arts Centre Orchestra’ concert of the NAC’s 40th Anniversary season, Boris Brott, Principal Youth and Family Conductor, welcomes a host of special guests in addition to Mr. Levy. Happy 40th Birthday, NAC Orchestra! is a one-hour bilingual concert which takes place in Southam Hall of the NAC on Saturday January 23 at 1:30 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m. What could be more fun than a birthday celebration – and you’re invited to our party! Join internationally acclaimed film star and comedian Eugene Levy as we revisit highlights of your favourite family concerts -- featuring NAC Orchestra musicians who made their debuts as young soloists and a birthday choir with singers who have grown up with the NAC Orchestra. The choir will be prepared by Ottawa legend Barbara Clark. The choir will be performing Louis Applebaum’s “Song for the National Arts Centre”, which was written for the inaugural digging of the NAC building site in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II. This piece has never been performed since, and has now been arranged for full orchestra. The lyrics were written by distinguished Canadian poet Earle Birney (1904-1995) -- twice a recipient of the Governor General’s Literature Award for Literature, for David and Other Poems (1942) and for Now Is Time (1945). Enjoy performances by Eugene Levy, NAC Orchestra musicians Jessica Linnebach on violin and Steven van Gulik on trumpet, the percussion duo Bangers and Smash (featuring NAC Orchestra percussionists Kenneth Simpson and Jonathan Wade), the throat-singing ensemble Nukariik, and Baobab Youth Performers, in a rousing African drum and dance performance. View close-up action on the giant NACOtron screen, presented in collaboration with Rogers TV. ‘Family Adventures with the National Arts Centre Orchestra’ concerts offer dazzling performances, fun-filled audience participation, and entertaining storytelling. This unique 4-concert series -- ideal for ages 5 to 105 -- is a great way to enjoy a Saturday afternoon.
