On Wednesday, December 2, the City of Ottawa in partnership with the Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability and United Way Ottawa, will host the City’s sixth annual AccessAbility Day.


On Wednesday, December 2, the City of Ottawa in partnership with the Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability and United Way Ottawa, will host the City’s sixth annual AccessAbility Day. The theme for this year’s event is active living and highlighting accessibility and inclusion in customer service. The day is packed full of activities for all ages and abilities including an opening ceremony, art exhibit, information displays, fitness and aquafitness, public skating and swimming, curling bonspiel, dance, painting and shuffleboard. A friendly sledge hockey game will be a highlight of the day featuring Canadian Paralympic athletes Jean Labonté, Hervé Lord, Graeme Murray, Todd Nicholson and Benoît St-Amand vs. City representatives including Deputy City Manager Steve Kanellakos and Councillor Alex Cullen. Educational workshops will also be held on Accessible Customer Service and Moving to Inclusion in a Recreational Environment. Date: Wednesday, December 2, 2009 Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 10:45 a.m. (Halls A & B) - Opening Ceremony including the Official Proclamation of AccessAbility Day by Deputy Mayor Bob Monette Noon (Ice surface # 2) - Sledge hockey game Location: Nepean Sportsplex, 1701 Woodroffe Avenue.
