Dr. Maggie Mamen is an award-winning clinical psychologist and best-selling author who works with children, adolescents, and families in a multidisciplinary private practice in Ottawa. She will share her experiences and knowledge with parents, students, staff, and community members on Thursday, November 26, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the library of Ridgemont High School.

Prior to establishing her current practice in 1990, Maggie worked in university, hospital, and school board settings.  She taught courses on child development and childhood exceptionalities for many years, she enjoys giving frequent workshops and seminars for community groups, parents, teachers, and other professionals, and has appeared on radio and TV internationally.

In addition to the best selling Pampered Child Syndrome, Maggie is the author of Who’s in Charge, Laughter, Love & Limits, and most recently Understanding Nonverbal Learning Disabilities: A Common-Sense Guide for Parents and Professionals.

Growing Up, Feeling Good: will be the focus of the November 26 presentation.  She will discusses how difficult it is for children to embrace family values while being bombarded with messages that idolize bad behaviour in athletes and pop stars, to name a few. This presentation examines ways that parents can provide a family environment that supports the development of positive communication skills as well as resilience and healthy self-esteem.
