Signing up for swimming lessons in the 21st century

12:18am on Tuesday morning, August 12th. Just finished online registration for our daughter’s swimming lessons this fall. Today is the first day to register, and registration started online at 12:01am.

Sure, we could register in person at 9am — but by that time the coveted Sunday morning swimming timeslots are likely to be snapped up. Spent about 15 minutes reloading the City of Ottawa’s registration website because of high server loads, but eventually we got in and got the spots.

I can remember 30 years ago, when my parents had to line up early on a Saturday morning at the Nepean Sportsplex for a long, long time to get a swimming lesson spot. Thirty years later, we’re doing it from the comfort of our couch while watching the Olympics!
