Rideau River ice breaking set to begin today

Ice breaking operations on the Rideau River will begin today between Rideau Falls and Hog’s Back. Blasting will follow starting on March 7.

The City, in partnership with the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, undertakes ice breaking operations each year to alleviate possible spring flooding in flood-prone areas. Once started, these operations will be carried out daily, weather and ice conditions permitting.

Ice breaking operations will create open water. Residents are asked to keep away from the river until operations are completed, and to always supervise children around water.
