I was at last night's [ Great Race ](http://ottawastart.com/story/18191.php) , a fundraiser organized by local artist and frequent OttawaStart contributor [ Andrew King ](http://www.andrewkingstudio.com/) .

Andrew’s been talking for months about putting something like this together and I’m glad he finally pulled it off.  About 30 people raced wooden Kub Kars down a 32-foot, 3-lane track inside the Westboro Masonic Hall.  The evening had a Great Gatsby theme, with many guests dressed up in 1920’s clothing and decor, and the silent movie _ Metropolis _ projected onto the wall.  Inexplicably, there was also a flying inflatable shark.

It was a totally creative and entertaining event, and it raised lots of money with all proceeds going towards the purchase of art supplies for local school art programs.  $1850 was raised during the night.

I took a few photos last night and added them to my Flickr stream…
