** Thursday, November 22: Death Row Rumble: Rockabilly, Burlesque and Ink in the Clink **

This Thursday November 22, Sailor Jerry presents Death Row Rumble: Rockabilly, Burlesque and Ink in the Clink, taking place at Mugshots as of 9:30 pm. This unique event will include music by Ottawa’s leading rockabilly-country group Dang Guilty, entertainment by premiere burlesque troupe Capital Tease and free tattoos by Gorgeous George of Planet Ink in a cell courtesy of the event’s sponsor Sailor Jerry Rum who will also offer rum drink specials.

_ ** Thursday, November 22: ** ** Roses and Candles Gala **

The Immigrant Women Services of Ottawa (IWSO) will be holding their annual gala at the Hellenic Banquet Centre to celebrate the wonderful and inspirational tales of women in Ottawa including IWSO community winners. This year’s Honourary Chair is human rights activist Nazanin Afhsin – Jam MacKay and MC is Lois Lee from Rogers Daytime. Guests will be treated to live entertainment, silent and live auctions and delicious cuisine. Tickets are $95 and proceeds will go to the Immigrant Women Services of Ottawa. This is a great way to help a worthy cause while chatting with some wonderful folks in the community.

Head over to Mercury Lounge to check out the first edition of the Ottawa NuJazz Festival, an extension of the Toronto NuJazz Festival. Presented by the Mercury Lounge, House of PainT and World Famous Music, this 3-day festival will feature live performances by the Jazz Amnesty Sound System, the Soul Motivators and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. A festival not to be missed for those who love new jazz, funk and soul music!

This is the first public art exhibit of Artistic Expressions Studio, which was established by Centre 507 and Centretown United Church to support people living in poverty or otherwise facing obstacles to create their art. The show is open Thursday and Friday 3:30-6 p.m. and 7-9:30 p.m., and Saturday 2-4 p.m.

** Saturday, November 24: A Child’s Christmas in Wales **

Rod Clipperton reads _ A Child’s Christmas in Wales _ by Dylan Thomas at Glebe-St. James United Church (650 Lyon Street South). Starting at 4pm, it features seasonal music performed by Robert Palmai, organ, and Marya Woyiwada, soprano, Canterbury High School’s Vocum, The Canterbury Trebles. Tickets for adults are $15 at the door, with kids 10-12 free. Proceeds from the event are going to the Acquired Brain Injury program at Ottawa Hospital’s Rehabilitation Centre in Allison Woyiwada’s honour.

** ** Saturday, November 24: Mathare in Focus/Slums through the eyes of students: A vernissage of photos **

Besides scholars’ thoughtful photos and writing, the event will feature entertainment (live music and spoken word artists), refreshments, silent auction and merchandise. Funds raised go to secondary school scholarships for promising young minds from Mathare Valley Slum in Nairobi, Kenya. Last year, we raised enough for more than 10 scholarships.

** ** Sunday, November 25: Klub Podrum and Nicholas Dyson’s Spastic Songbook at the Mercury Lounge **

Ottawa trumpeter Nicholas Dyson has pulled together a new jazz group. At its debut performance Sunday, it will be playing 60s material by Lee Morgan, Cannonball Adderley and Joe Henderson, more obscure tunes by recent masters Steve Kuhn and Joey Calderazzo, interesting covers from other styles, and some originals. The show also features the Klub Podrum house DJ playing a wide variety of jazz and jazz fusion from across Europe. **
