** ** Thursday-Sunday, November 14-17: Artist and Artisan Fairs **

You can spread the benefits of your holiday purchases at some artisan festivals this weekend. The Ottawa Guild of Potters Holiday Sale (Nov. 14-17) has works by local artists, while the Ten Thousand Villages Ottawa Fair Trade Festival Sale (Nov. 15-16) offers fairly-traded handicrafts from Africa, Asia and Latin America. At the Third World Bazaar (Nov. 15-17), a purchase of refreshments or a food donation benefits some charitable organizations. Check out OttawaStart for other craft shows and bazaars around town .

Crush Improv welcomes Ottawa artist Andrew King as the special guest for _ Spotlight On. _ It’s an award-winning format of unscripted, supervised theatre. Andrew will be telling stories from his past and the Crush Improv cast will improvised scenes based on his life. At Centrepointe Studio Theatre, 8pm. I’ll be playing piano.

** ** Thursday-Friday, November 14-15: Pedro Navarro Live in Concert **

This Thursday and Friday, the Embassy of Spain in Ottawa and the Mercuy Lounge have teamed up to present Pedro Navarro live in concert. This Spanish flamenco guitarist sensation, critically acclaimed for his “magic fingers” will be performing live on both nights starting at 8pm. Do not miss this rare occasion to see such a talented musician live.

** ** Friday-Sunday, November 15-17: 5th Annual Ottawa-Gatineau Tattoo Expo **

Get inked at the 5th Annual Ottawa-Gatineau Tattoo Expo this weekend at the Hilton Hotel Casio du Lac-Leamy.  While at the show, you can check out the work of international tattoo artists and also and live bands. The doors open Friday evening at 5pm and at noon on Saturday and Sunday. Daily admission is $20 on Friday, $25 on Saturday and $15 on Sunday, or you can get a weekend pass for $50. Children under 12 get in free and get a free (temporary) tattoo.

The 3rd annual edition of Glisten! is happening this Saturday at the Irving Greenberg Theater. This is the perfect occasion to shop for holiday gifts from some of Ottawa’s best indie craft designers and makers. It’s free admission, there will be holiday tunes, door prizes & more.

** ** Saturday, November 16: Roddy Ellias Trio at GigSpace **

Guitarist and composer Roddy Ellias plays beautiful music that ranges from delicate to swinging. He’s got a list of credits as long as your arm, including having organized an international guitar conference in Ottawa last May, mostly just from personal contacts with the best in the biz. Together with Montrealers Adrian Vedady on bass and Thom Gossage on drums (both of whom also have impressive CVs), Roddy will play two sets of all-original music in preparation for a recording session later this month.

Plan 99 reading series, the Manx Pub, 370 Elgin Street at 5pm. $10: a VERSeFest Fundraiser; door prizes. Governor General Award winner Phil Hall returns to read from his latest poetry book “The Small Nouns Crying Faith” and New York poet Eduardo C.
