** ** Thursday-Saturday, June 12-14: Festival Franco-Ontarien **

The 39th edition of the Festival Franco-Ontarien kicks off this Thursday and is being held until Saturday, June 14. This year again, the family-friendly festival, which celebrates francophone music and culture, is happening at Major Hill Park and will present popular musicians from French Canada including Lisa Leblanc, Pierre Lapointe, Karim Ouellet, Marie-Mai and Marc Hervieux.

** Thursday-Sunday, June 12-15: Ottawa Explosion Weekend **

The 2014 edition of OXW runs from June 12 to June 15 at various locations across Ottawa including Club Saw, House of Targ, Mugshots, Cafe Dekcuf, and Avant-Garde Bar. This niche music festival, which features independent underground punk, rock, garage, hardcore bands from the region and beyond will present over 75 groups, the majority of which you’ve probably never heard of, but that you should definitely discover and encourage if you’re into that kind of music.

** Thursday, June 12: Wish Upon A Laugh and Homes with Woofs! **

One evening, two events for good causes. At Wish Upon A Laugh, comedians Mike MacDonald, Casey Corbin and Wafik Nasralla take the stage at an Algonquin-student-run benefit for the Children’s Wish Foundation. Homes with Woofs!, organized by local realtors with support from builders and artists, includes an auction of spectacular doghouses and other items with proceeds to the Ottawa Humane Society.

** Friday-Sunday, June 13-15: Westfest **

From main stage headliners A Tribe Called Red, Ashley MacIsaac and George Leach to the BF Vacuum ‘This Won’t Suck’ Community Stage, this three-day street party—complete with buskers, food vendors and a kids’ zone—is worth a visit. Did I mention it’s free? Free bike parking, too.

** Saturday, June 1: Operation FATHER’S DAY ** at the Diefenbunke r.

The first annual event is a fundraising initiative for the Museum and The Guild of the Royal Canadian Dragoons. This will be a unique and engaging event like no other in the National Capital Region.
