** Saturday, December 14: A Very Be Bop Christmas at the Hanoi Pho **

Sappy strings and unctuous vocals? Christmas music doesn’t have to be like that, as you’ll hear when saxophonist Bernard Stepien and guitarist Nathan Corr play Saturday evening. They’re taking their inspiration from bebop pioneer Charlie Parker, who turned “White Christmas” into arresting jazz back in 1948. This gig will be particularly convenient for east-enders who need a break from Christmas shopping, as this Vietnamese restaurant is on Innes Road in the south-east end of Orleans (and for the rest of you, it’s on the cross-city OC Transpo route 94).
