[

You may have heard about a little music festival known as " Bluesfest " that’s on this week in Ottawa.  But you might not have heard about some of the other events in this week’s list.

_ Thanks to all of our contributors for their ideas this week, including our newest contributor, Bryony. _

_

_

** _ THURSDAY, JULY 7 _ **

** _

_ **

** Kaitlin Wainwright , blogger & twitter-er and Tanya Snook, aka Spydergrrl :

BLOGGING:

** It might seem somewhat redundant to suggest that those reading this blog attend a blog reading (especially if you were to blog about it afterwards… meta-blogging!) But, I am recommending just that: Thursday night, come down to The Prescott, in Little Italy, grab a pint (and maybe a meatball sandwich) and listen to some of Ottawa’s best bloggers read their favourite posts at ** Blog Out Loud ** ! ** _

_ **

** Tim Schobert, Classical Music Ottawa :

FESTIVALS:

** The opening concert of the Music and Beyond Festival is pretty special: ** Christopher Plummer ** headlines an evening devoted to Shakespeare and music. It’s at Dominion-Chalmers United Church. Don’t miss it! ** _

_ **

** Ryan Bresee , radio host of CKCU’s Whatever’s Cool With Me :

HIP HOP:

** The Women’s Worlds 2011 conference is running until July 7. On Thursday, there will be a free, farewell street party on the Tabaret Lawn at the University of Ottawa. One of the performers is ** Canadian MC, Eternia ** . Her latest album is incredible and I will be interviewing her live on Thursday at 11 a.m. on CKCU 93.1 FM or online at www.ckcufm.com if you’d like to hear from her before going to see her.

** Lisa from couchassassin.com :

 MUSIC:

** Not found your soulmate at Bluefest? You are looking in the wrong place. Get that loving feeling at ** Motown Madness ** , featuring local acts the Hornettes and the Pelts.  At the Live Lounge.

** Brett Delmage, OttawaJazzScene.ca :

SWING:

** There were 140 concerts at the Ottawa Jazz Festival, but no classic big band! No problem. The exceptional Ottawa Jazz Orchestra will perform " ** When Swing was King ** " at Billings Estate Museum from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday July 7. Hear music by Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw and Glenn Miller. Teachers from Swing Dynamite will present a free swing dance lesson during the concert break. It looks to be perfect evening weather for this outdoor concert. $25 tickets at the museum, or call 613-247-4830 for info or to reserve.

** ** _ FRIDAY, JULY 8 _ **

** _

_

**

** Max Keeping, CTV Ottawa’s Community Ambassador:

 A NIGHT OF COURAGE.

** Young people think cancer can never happen to them - it does. And too often, it kills. ** A Night of Courage, hosted by Urban Male Magazine (UMM) ** . Friday night at five Ottawa nightclubs: Lobby (158 1/2 Dalhousie), Tila Tequila (104 Clarence), Buddha Bar Lounge (104B Clarence), Mansion (400A Dalhousie) and Union Station (360 Elgin).  100% of cover charge, donations and silent auctions will benefit the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, for Cancer Survivorship Care at its soon-to-open Maplesoft Centre.

on Friday at 9 pm. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to participate in this great, free program! It's strictly weather permitting, but right now it looks like clear skies for Friday evening!

I'm sure others will shed light on the great acts at Bluesfest (which I'll be at most nights) so my suggestion is that when you leave the festival this Friday you head to

This new monthly club night is being brought to you by two of Ottawa's most established and reliable DJ's, DeeJay Shub and Bear Witness, so you can count on being impressed and dancing till the wee hours! Ottawa's first Moombahton Party, Friday night at 10:00pm until Saturday morning at 2:30pm.

  BLUESFEST:

**
I'm looking forward to seeing
**
 The Tragically Hip
**
live at
[
 Bluesfest
](http://ottawastart.com/bluesfest)
, on Saturday July 9 at 9:30 p.m. I have this theory that each and every Canadian has seen The Hip live at least once in their lives and I must complete my duty as a new Canadian. Plus, the band rocks and I truly enjoy listening to the lyrics, focused on Canadiana. I mean, how else would I know who was Bill Barilko or what is a "deke"?

[

this summer. It started Wednesday evening. Last year was the debut year for the new show and it blew me away. I believe they're coming back with the same show this year. I'm normally someone who can't watch the same movie twice or read the same book twice but I caught this show probably four times last year. The 3D aspect of the show combined with phenomenal surround sound and the natural setting will awe you. Take visiting friends or just the family on a nice evening. It's worth the price of admission which is $0! Tip: After wet weather has moved through the area I'd suggest a lawn chair or a blanket.
