Hear from the University of Ottawa, Ottawa Public Health and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research about the Ottawa Neighbourhood Study, which has been looking at health and well-being in the city’s neighbourhoods, and share your ideas about how to make Ottawa a healthier place to live. 107 Murray St., 6-8 p.m.

Learn about the beautiful northern lights, and create a colourful craft to take home. These hands-on family workshops feature take-home crafts. This Friday, April 12, the Canadian Museum of Civilization invites you to its second edition of Uncorked! a special night of wine-tasting in an enchanting decor. ** Friday, April 12: Celebrating Chinua Achebe **

Chinua Achebe, considered one of Africa’s greatest writers, passed away in March. There’ll be a celebration of his work with readings, spoken word performances, tributes and music at Carleton University’s Residence Commons, Rm. 270, 7-10 p.m. It’s sure to be inspiring. Hosted by the Nigeria High Commission and Nigerians in Canada, and Carleton’s Institute of African Studies.

** ** Saturday, April 13: Ottawa Goes Wild ** ** (rain date Sunday, April 14) **

That’s “wild” as in “wildlife,” of course, since this is National Wildlife Week. The Constance Creek Wildlife Refuge, Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society-Ottawa Valley Chapter, South March Highlands, Ecology Ottawa and Ottawa Field Naturalists’ Club are hosting a celebration at Brewer Park from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., with music, kids’ activities and displays on local wildlife and habitat conservation.

** ** Saturday, April 13: The Jivewires at the NAC Fourth Stage **

Ottawa’s Jivewires play swing and jive jazz with a bit of blues dropped in – intensely danceable and mostly upbeat, music that grabs you and puts a smile on your face – and they feature some of the best jazz musicians in town. You can hear them debut new songs from their upcoming sixth album at the NAC Fourth Stage on Saturday.

** Saturday, April 13: Fela Night 2013 **

On Saturday, April 13, the Mercury Lounge invites you to Fela Night 2013, an annual tribute to Fela Kuti presented by the venue. The event includes a drumming circle from 7:00 to 10:00 pm followed by a night of dancing to the sounds of DJs Elorious Cain and Trevor Walker who’ll be be spinning originals and remixes of Fela Kuti’s afrobeat music.

** Tuesday, April 16: Cold War Cinema: The Sum of All Fears **

What better place to watch _ The Sum of All Fears _ than from one of locations where the movie was filmed? Canada’s Cold War Museum at the Diefenbunker in Carp is showing the movie starting at 7pm, with the optional tour starting at 6pm. The movie on its own is $8, and the movie+tour is $15. If you’re a Museum Member or Connexion Card holder then admission is free. Reservations are required and can be made at 613-839-0007.
