Built in 1892, the 123-year-old former Methodist Church is home to the Valley’s latest music recording studio appropriately named ** _ Old Church Recording _ ** .

It’s located in the beautiful Whitewater region of the Ottawa Valley on the Barr Line between Cobden and Douglas, ON.

This refurbished church–home hosts 17ft/5.1m high ceilings with tongue and groove walls in a 2,400 ft2/223m2 area. Separate to the Church building is what sole proprietor Colin Wylie calls the ‘mix building’ primarily for editing, mixing, and mastering tracks, but is replete with sound booth for further tracking and re-amping.

Summer renovations to the church building are in their final stages, the once attic has been transformed into ‘living space’. This will allow for more overnight accommodations for ‘out of town clients’ who may want to escape the city for some truly inspirational Ottawa Valley beauty and great audio production.

Colin Wylie is a multi- instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter, who has recorded and toured for A&M (US), has been a Slingerland percussion endorsee, composer for Rondor/ALMO Irving publishing, and whose compositions have been placed in shows for Muchmusic, NBC, CTV, MTV (US &UK), Fox (US), CBC, The CW Network and PBS.

Old Church Recording utilizes Logic X, Universal Audio (UAD) Apollo software, UAD 4-710D & Neve 1073N Mic Pre Amps. Also, to capture the array of great in-house instrumentation, are new and vintage microphones by AKG, Apex, Astatic, Audio Technica, Cascade, Electro-Voice, Neumann, and Rode.

However, what truly sets the facility apart is the natural ambience of the church studio space, digital simulations have become very authentic over the years, but most would agree, there is nothing better than the sound of natural timbre of a room tailored for great acoustics.

In addition to ‘in-house’ production services, Old Church Recording offers mobile recording for church/school/live venue productions and for the artist/band in the privacy and convenience of their own home or rehearsal space.
