Ottawa Fury FC midfielder and Ottawa-native Jamar Dixon has been named to the Canadian Men’s National Team for a pair of upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in September, Canada soccer announced on Thursday.
The 27-year-old is part of the 23-man squad which will travel to Honduras on September 2 before returning home to face El Salvador in the final match of the fourth round at BC Place in Vancouver on September 6. Canada requires a result in both contests to ensure their spot in the HEX.
It will be Dixon’s second stint with the National Team as he made his international debut for Canada against the United States in February. The 5-foot-10 midfielder is very thrilled with this new opportunity to represent his country.
“It’s absolutely amazing,” said Dixon. “It’s a great achievement, especially when I think about all the hard work and perseverance that I needed to get to this level. The path of success is never straight, there is always ups and downs. I’m thankful to get this opportunity. It will be an amazing experience and I want to make the most out of it.”
Dixon is expected to leave for International duty Monday August 29, so the Ottawa-native midfielder will be avaialable for selection in Sunday’s clash against Indy Eleven.
