How do you want to celebrate New Year's Eve in Ottawa? With friends and family? With your kids? A formal black tie event? Dancing and champagne? Here are some suggestion for things to do on New Year's in Ottawa on December 31, 2013.

Are there fireworks on New Year's Eve? (2013)

  • There are no fireworks planned for Parliament Hill.
  • There are also fireworks planned for the second annual Hogmanay event at Ottawa City Hall, organized by the Scottish Society of Ottawa and presented by TD. It's free!
  • There's an annual family event at Ben Franklin Place (the old Nepean City Hall) in Centrepointe. Rick Chiarelli’s Alcohol-free Family New Year’s Eve event including magicians, games, dancers, face painting, skating, sleigh rides and yes, fireworks. The fireworks start at 10:00pm so you can get your kids home early for bed.
  • Due to ongoing construction, there will be no fireworks as part of the Sparks Street New Year's Eve event.

OC Transpo Service is free after 8pm

"OC Transpo is pleased to announce that free transit service will again be available to residents on New Year’s Eve after 8 p.m. This city-wide campaign is provided through a partnership between OC Transpo,and the City’s Safer Roads Ottawa program, CAA Ontario East and North, and MADD-Ottawa."
