The City of Ottawa has launched an incredibly useful tool that will remind you when to put out your garbage, recycling and compost.  You can sign up here and get a notification via email, Twitter or a phone call reminder. You pick the date and time you want that “heads up” to come.

This is a great tool if you’re one of those people who doesn’t remember it’s garbage day until the trucks roll by first thing in the morning.  You’ll never miss a garbage day or mix up your black and blue boxes again.

The tool was created by Recollect , a company “born out of the Open Data movement in Vancouver.

The launch of the new service comes just a few weeks in advance of a major change in garbage collection.  Starting October 29, ** garbage will be collected every two weeks ** .  And garbage day may change for some residents.
