Lane closures on Albert Street from City Centre Avenue to Bayview O-Train Station start October 1

From Thursday October 1 to Friday October 23, weather permitting, construction work to install a watermain on the north side of Albert Street, from City Centre Avenue to Bayview Station, will be underway. The construction will require lane closures.

Work will be carried out from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, and on weekends if necessary. One lane eastbound and one lane westbound in the construction zone from City Centre Avenue to Bayview Station will be kept open at all times for general traffic. However, traffic impact is expected to be high, especially in peak periods, and motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes.

Traffic control signage will be in place. OC Transpo may need to temporarily relocate bus stops away from active construction areas.  For more information, please visit octranspo.com . Sidewalks and multi-use pathways on both sides of Albert Street will be maintained.

Albert Street is being widened to accommodate OC Transpo buses from 2016 to 2018, while the West Transitway is converted to a light rail corridor for the O-Train Confederation Line.

The work involves widening the north side of Albert, relocating traffic signals, expanding and partially reconstructing the existing multi-use pathway, installing curbside catch basins and fully repaving the street.

In addition to the widening, Albert Street’s underground infrastructure is being renewed, including storm and sanitary sewers and watermain replacement.

With all of the construction-related activities underway, residents are encouraged to be flexible with commuting times, stagger work hours or use alternative means for travel. The public is asked to consider options such as transit, walking, cycling or carpooling.
