Hey look, the Ottawa Sun has a new web site

‘Tis the week for new newspaper websites.  On Sunday I blogged about the new Centretown Buzz website.  And on Tuesday, the Ottawa Sun launched a new web home.  It’s bold, it’s brash, and it’s very visual.  Much like the print edition.  On the surface I like it, will have to use it for a few days before I pass judgement on the rest of the user experience.

Here’s a note about the “new digital experience” from Rick Gibbons, the Sun’s Publisher: “See your local news, sports and entertainment unfolding in full colour photos and video, brought to you in the SUN’s unique and edgy style by your favourite SUN columnists and reporters. Be the first to comment live on the day’s events and easily share with others. Allow our visual navigation to guide you through features, blogs, exciting contests, our new coffee break section and more. Plus, our daily Sunshine Girl shouldn’t be missed.”

Looks like an ugly cluttered amateur blog

Reminds me a bit of the Flipboard app available for iPads. However, I think they've overloaded the front page and should consider tweaking the format to use two or three pages/tabs to hold the overflow articles.

Thanks for the link, the new site looks great.

Great photo display, too bad I use to go there for news. I probably won't go back for at least a couple of months, and then only to see if they have taken negative feedback to heart.

The site 'looks' great…however since I started surfing in a few days ago, it's been plagued by service interruptions, dead links, and error messages. Especially on days like today, where the coverage of Bin Laden's death has gone viral online. Great efforts on the new look, but not reliable, and definately needs the bugs worked out before working properly. Cheers!!
