Heavy lifting on a Saturday morning: 300,000-lb facade to be re-attached to downtown building

If you’re a fan of construction and heavy equipment, here’s an event you’ll want to check out on Saturday morning (Jan 8).

Property development company Urban Capital is re-attaching the facade from the old Metropolitan Bible Church to the new Central condo building at Bank and Gladstone.

The facade weighs 300,000 pounds and they’ll use two of the biggest cranes available in Ottawa to move it. And they’ll close down Bank Street between Gladstone and Flora on Saturday and Sunday.

Here’s a time-lapse video showing the removal of the wall last winter. It’s been in storage ever since. (And here are some photos too.)
