OTTAWA—His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, invites members of the public to join him for the annual Inspection of the Ceremonial Guard and the launch of Storytime on Sunday, June 25, 2017, starting at 10 a.m., on the grounds of Rideau Hall.
See details of the events below. All activities are free of charge.
ANNUAL INSPECTION OF THE CEREMONIAL GUARD
Witness the pageantry, precision and colour of the Governor General’s annual Inspection of the Ceremonial Guard, which includes members of regiments from across the country.
Over the summer months, visitors will be able to enjoy the much-loved Relief of the Sentries, where sentries are led by a piper to their posts, daily, on the hour.
LAUNCH OF STORYTIME AT RIDEAU HALL
Delight in stories and snacks as we kick off this annual outdoor family activity that celebrates reading and literacy. The Governor General, along with a special guest from the Ceremonial Guard and volunteers from Frontier College, will read children’s stories written by—among others—Order of Canada members Chris Hadfield and Dominique Demers. This year, the Order of Canada marks 50 years of honouring great Canadians.
Storytime is hosted in collaboration with Frontier College, a Canadian charitable literacy organization. Every Friday and Saturday, from June 30th to August 26th, families are invited to settle in under the Reading Tent, near the Visitor Centre, to read books and participate in fun literacy activities.
