Google Transit now available for Ottawa & OC Transpo

OC Transpo bus routes and trip planning is now available on Google Transit, as part of their powerful Google Maps tool.

We’ve been using Mapquest and Google Maps for years to find driving directions — it’s great to be able to access bus routes at the same time. Ottawa’s one of four Canadian cities so far on Google Transit, joining Vancouver, Fredericton and Montreal.

It’s a very clean interface and easy to use. Just for fun, we asked for the best bus route from 22 Sussex Drive to 1000 Palladium Drive. If the PM was going to Scotiabank Place tonight, he could hop on the #3 at 9:39pm, transfer to the 118 at Hurdman, then take a 26-minute walk from Terry Fox/Katimavik to the arena. Total travel time: 1 hour, 43 minutes.

This would be even better if it could be used to figure out a way to get the #2 running on time.

This is great news. We should all congratulate OC Transpo for making this data freely available.
