Five ways to fix Kanata Centrum

](http://ottawastart.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/centrum.jpg) The Kanata Centrum was supposed to be a new city centre for suburban Kanata. It was supposed to be a place where pedestrians and cars could co-exist.

But it didn’t quite work out that way.

It’s not friendly to cars or pedestrians. Just like any other “big box destination” in Ottawa, it has lots of asphalt and long walks between stores, and ugly. It’s home to the usual big box gang: Walmart, Chapters, Loblaws, Future Shop. There’s a handful of smaller shops, a bunch of restaurants, an AMC Theatre, and OC Transpo’s main western station, Terry Fox. According to Wikipedia, it is the third largest shopping centre in Ottawa.

Over the next few days, we’ll suggest five ways to improve Kanata Centrum, and perhaps bring it a bit closer to the original plan. **

Day 1: ** A crosswalk to Walmart **

Day 2: ** Fewer entrances off Herlihey **

Day 3: ** Wayfinding signs **

Day 4: ** Stop signs for Earl Grey **

Day 5: ** Where should the bus stop?
