Five charged after three human trafficking investigations

(Ottawa)—On August 5, 2016 two adult females were arrested and charged for attempting to recruit and groom two female youths into prostitution.

The two adult females encountered the youths, aged 14 and 15, in the Sandy Hill area on July 22nd and offered transportation.  For the next several hours, the adults attempted to recruit and groom the youths into prostitution.

Officers located the two youths in an apartment unit in the 300 block of Gloucester Street later that day.  Two adult females and one adult male were arrested, charged by the Human Trafficking Unit and they were held in custody pending bail hearings.

Amina AHMED, 30 years old (f) of Ottawa is charged with:

  • 2x Trafficking in persons under 18 by recruiting
  • 2x Trafficking in persons under 18 by exercising control
  • 2x Advertising another persons sexual services
  • 2x Procure person under 18 to provide sexual services
  • 1x Possess Schedule 1 substance

Nadia NGOTO, 32 years old (f), of Ottawa is charged with:

  • 2x Traffic in persons under 18 by recruiting
  • 2x Traffic in persons under 18 by exercising control
  • 2x Procure person under 18 to provide sexual services
  • 1x Utter threats

Shukri ADEN, 35 years old (m), of Ottawa is charged with:

  • 2x Sexual assault
  • 2x Sexual interference under 16
  • 3x Failure to comply with judicial release

On September 2, 2016 Patrol officers responded to a reported assault that occurred in the Barrhaven area.  A male was arrested at scene.

The investigation was turned over to the Human Trafficking Unit and charges were laid on September 3rd against an Ottawa man. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Jordan NOEL, 27 years old, of Ottawa has been charged with:

  • Trafficking in persons
  • Trafficking in persons receive material benefit
  • 2x Assault
  • Utter threats
  • Procure person to provide sexual service
  • Receive material benefit from sexual services
  • Advertise another person’s sexual services
  • Theft under $5000
  • Breach of probation

On Wednesday September 7, 2016 the Tactical Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of Wisteria Crescent.  The two occupants, a male and a female, were taken into custody.

They have been accused of operating an organized prostitution enterprise using several rental apartments in Ottawa.  The Ottawa Police Human Trafficking Unit commenced this investigation in April 2015.

The following charges have been laid in relation to seven adult female victims:

Qiang TIAN, 35 years old (m), from Ottawa:

  • 5x Trafficking in persons
  • 5x Trafficking in persons – receive material benefit
  • 6x Receive material benefit from sexual services
  • 6x Procuring person to provide sexual services
  • 6x Advertising another person’s sexual services
  • 1x Possess proceeds obtained by crime

Xi ZHANG, 33 years old (f) from Ottawa:

  • 5x Trafficking in persons
  • 5x Trafficking in persons – receive material benefit
  • 6x Receive material benefit from sexual services
  • 6x Procuring person to provide sexual services
  • 6x Advertising another person’s sexual services
  • 1x Possess proceeds obtained by crime
