First Avenue closed from Bank to Percy

Beginning today, sections of First Avenue will be closed to vehicular and cycling traffic from Bank Street to Percy Street. Local traffic and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. This closure is required to complete construction of the roadway, sewer and watermain on First Avenue. This work will be completed by fall 2015.

During this closure, OC Transpo Route 6 in the westbound direction will be rerouted to Third Avenue. Signs will be posted to notify residents of temporary bus stop locations.

Infrastructure on First Avenue from Bank to Bronson streets needs to be reconstructed due to the age and condition of the existing infrastructure. This construction activity is the continuation of work that started in 2014. As part of the roadwork, a one-way westbound cycling lane will be constructed on the north side of First Avenue from O’Connor Street to Percy Street.

Motorists and cyclists should anticipate traffic delays and are advised to practice extra caution while following the directional signage around the construction zone.

Commuters should plan ahead and check their route with the up-to-the-minute information available on the Travel and Mobility web page or the Ottawa NAV mobile app. For the most up-to-date information, please check Twitter and ottawa.ca .
