Cube Gallery

A Group Show

May 2nd to May 28th, 2017

Vernissage: Thursday, May 4th from 6:00 – 9:00 pm

Visit Cube Gallery this spring to see a group exhibition about food. An eclectic group of artists from across the country take on the subject of everyone’s favourite necessity. From prehistoric wall paintings to Andy Warhol’s soup cans, food has historically and extensively been depicted in art. Think of Vermeer’s milkmaid, or Mary Pratt’s fish in the kitchen sink.

Food can be a source of life, a form of comfort and succour. It can also be an indicator of status. People may not break bread together, but they will share Instagram pics of celebratory dinners, or Facebook fancy plates in exclusive restaurants.

Featuring artists: Marc Dubois, Ruth Dick, Betty Pogue Connelly, Christine Fitzgerald, Heather Fraser, Marcus Jones, Sylvia Klein, Sophie Lemieux, Katherine McNenly, Andrew O’Malley, Stephen Perry, Evelyn Rapin, Vivian Tors, Cliff Turner and Maria Gomez Uma.
