Magical Mystery Tour 50th Anniversary Concert
When: December 16, 2017, 9:00 PM
Where: The Brass Monkey, 250 Greenbank Rd, Ottawa
The Beatles take a bus and get lost. That’s what a lot people thought when Magical Mystery Tour came out 50 years ago, on November 27, 1967. But take a listen today and you hear some of the most iconic compositions the Beatles ever recorded: I Am the Walrus, Strawberry Fields Forever, All You Need is Love, and many more.
For the 50th anniversary of its release, Jonesey and friends present a fully orchestrated performance of the entire album on Saturday December 16, 2017.
It is the latest in the series of 50th anniversary concerts that started with “Beatlemania” on November 26, 2013. The band brought together for this show by promoter and band leader Paul Johanis is basically the same one that did the Sergeant Pepper 50th anniversary concert in June. Jim Devlin, guitar and vocals, Michel Cloutier, drums, and Ivan Matte on bass, who have been playing Beatles shows with Paul since 2013, are being joined by David Ranger on keyboards. The horn section is back, featuring Paul Adjeleian on trombone, Fred Otterman on baritone sax, Brian Boggs and Bruce Baker on tenor sax and Kaz Samujlo on trumpet. Once again, Ioan Harea will be directing the string quartet, joined by cellist Ezra Poplove.
Come listen to a full concert performance of the Beatles album that went full psychedelic, and stick around for the Beatles dance party afterwards!
