Deadline extended for LeBreton Flats request for qualifications

The National Capital Commission (NCC) is extending the deadline for proponents to submit innovative proposals for the development of LeBreton Flats, the largest and most significant urban site in Canada’s Capital.

Proponents are invited to imagine a world-class destination, an inspirational place that will demonstrate design excellence and innovation, an attractive place for Canadians and visitors alike.

Due to a greater expression of interest than expected, and following a recent site visit and information meeting where proponents suggested that more time than originally allocated is required to prepare proper submissions, the NCC has extended the deadline for the request for qualifications from December 5, 2014, to January 7, 2015.

The overall calendar of the redevelopment of LeBreton Flats will not be affected. ** ** ** Background ** The subject site for redevelopment is 9.3 hectares. In addition, the NCC is seeking from proponents a development planning outlook on a larger area referred to as option lands, consisting of an additional 12.3 hectares.

The NCC is using a two-stage process to select a successful proponent. Stage 1 consists of the present request for qualifications to qualify a short list of proponents who have extensive relevant development experience, design expertise, and the financial capacity to undertake and deliver the project.

The shortlisted qualified proponents would then be invited to participate in Stage 2 of the solicitation process, consisting of the request for proposals, to submit a more detailed design and a financial proposal.
