A day in the life of Mayor Jim Watson, as told through Vine videos

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson is one of the city’s most prolific tweeters. Most days he tweets out dozens of messages about events he’s attending, comments on city programs and policies, and responses to his constituents.

On Thursday, with a little help from his staff, he posted short video snippets of his day to Vine. Vine is a relatively new social media app that lets users share videos of up to six seconds long.

Ryan Kennery, Watson’s press secretary, followed the Mayor around today and captured some key moments on video.

“Mayor Watson is always keen to try new tools to find ways to connect with residents,” Kennery wrote in an email to OttawaStart. “In addition to today’s “Day in the Life” on Vine, he’s very active on Twitter, holds a monthly online Q&A session, and participated in a very successful AMA (“Ask Me Anything”) on Reddit earlier this year. The use of these tools is in line with his commitment to transparency and openness – and it is also a great way to consult with residents in real-time.”

While the videos on their own are quite mundane, as a collection they do give you a glimpse into just how busy and varied a typical day can be for Mr. Mayor. He started tweeting today at 6:24am. As I write this just after 8:00pm, he’s tweeting while attending a United Way event.

Things got a little meta when CTV reporter John Hua started Vining about the Mayor’s day of Vining.
